Potty Training (update)

Well, it's been a week and a half and we're hanging in there.  Today we had a breakthrough!  I have cleaned up at least 2-3 poopy underwear (and Brian some as well) each day since we started this.  This morning Xavier pooped in his underwear and I had enough.  I, not very nicely, told him that he was not allowed to poop in his underwear.  I know yelling at your potty-goer goes against everything the potty "experts" say, but I was at my wits end.  I was about to quit and just let the kid wear diapers forever.  But, after nap, he did his usual pee (doing AWESOME on the peeing) then we played in the daycare room.  After a little while, he ran out and said he had to go potty.  He ran straight into the bathroom, pulled his underwear down, sat down, and pooped!!!!  Praise the Lord!!!!  He was so proud and so was I.  I had told him this morning that I had a special surprise for him when he went poop, so of course, he asked for it.  I brought him to the freezer and told him that I had ice cream for him.  He said "what's nother prise?"  What kind of kid doesn't want ice cream for a prize?  Luckily, I had bought him the Where The Wild Things Are book over the weekend as another surprise gift, so he was very happy with that.  What a good boy!  Later in the afternoon he ran to the potty and went pee.  Ohhh, let's hope he keeps this up tomorrow!

Isabelle's Cast

I was going through old pictures on my cell phone and found the one of Isabelle getting her cast off last summer. She broke her wrist while "balancing" on a basketball - not her best idea! She had her cast on for about a month. She was very excited to get it off!

Anna's Walking

With all of the potty training excitement, I forgot to post last week's other big news...Anna decided to start walking.  Crawling is still her preferred method of transportation, but she has taken real steps!  Yea!

What kind?

Xavier asks some of the funniest questions.  Today, during one of our marathon potty sessions, I told him that Grandma and Grandpa were coming tomorrow to watch Isabelle play soccer.  He looked at me and said "What kind?"  After laughing, I told him it was Grandma and Grandpa Selhorst.  So funny...

Potty Training (for real)

This is it!  I decided that Monday would be the first day of full-blown potty training for Xavier.  We had played around with it before to see if he was ready, but this time we're not turning back!  Monday was pretty unproductive.  He sat on the potty many times, but didn't pee in it at all.  He had 2 pee-pee accidents, but really did all of his peeing in his pull-up during his nap.  Tuesday was much different!  He peed in this potty all day long!  No poop either day, though.

Wednesday was the same.  About 10am, though, Xavier started walking around the daycare room in circles (think of a dog deciding where to poop).  I knew that he had to be pretty plugged up because he normally poops 3-4 times a day and now he had gone almost 3 days!  After circling a couple times, he tried to escape the daycare room because he said he "needed to go nigh-nigh."  Well, I knew he really just wanted to hide in a corner and poop somewhere.  At this point I just felt sorry for the poor boy and just wanted him to get his poop out - who cares about the potty!  So, I asked him if he wanted to put in a diaper and poop in his diaper.  He of course wanted to.  Once it was on, he hid in a corner and did his business.  He felt much better after!

Thursday and Friday have been the same.  He has not had a pee-pee accident since the first day!  He doesn't tell me when he has to go, yet, but he does hold it for a long time.  I only ask put him on the potty every couple hours.  Yesterday he pooped in his pants about 5 times - I'm very discouraged.  Today, no poop anywhere.  I think I'm back at square one on the poop.

His reward for going on the potty is yogurt-raisins.  Lately, he's just as happy hearing how happy we are and how proud we are of him as he is getting yogurt raisins.  He's such a good boy!  (This picture is actually from February.  I haven't taken any this week.)

Glamor Shots

Isabelle took the camera yesterday and apparently had a glamor shots session with Xavier.  I saw these pics when we were at the lacrosse game this afternoon.  Brian said he heard Isabelle telling Xaiver - "stop smiling," well now we know why.

Soccer and Lacrosse

Isabelle first soccer and lacrosse games were this weekend.  The girls looked a little rusty at the soccer game, but the second half was much better than the first, so I think it's coming back to them.  Isabelle scored 2 goals!  I got a picture of the first one, but wasn't able to get the second one.
We all had our first experience with lacrosse this afternoon.  It's a hard game!  We could barely figure out what was going on.  Isabelle did great - she said a first she was a little lost, but after a few minutes, she was understanding it a lot more.  A game is much different than a practice.  They had 2 games, so by the second game, they looked tons better.  We all have a lot to learn!

The game starts (and after each goal) with kind of a jump ball.  I'm not sure what it's called.  The umps put the ball between their nets, then the girls are supposed to throw it in the air, and then they all go after it.  Isabelle got to do one of the jump balls.
